Peter R. Platanitis
1936 – 2011

FEEDING HILLS – Peter R. Platanitis, 74, of Clover Hill Drive died Monday, February 14, 2011 in Baystate Medical Center. Peter was born in Holyoke, the son of the late Peter and Lydia (Sikorski) Platanitis, and has lived in Feeding Hills most of his life. He served 28 years with the Army and Air National Guard. He was a member of the Elm Belcher Masonic Lodge, the Shriner's and Bela Grotto and the 104th Infantry Association. He leaves his wife of 52 years Barbara (Gilman) Platanitis; two daughters Susan J. Case and her husband John of Chatham and Nancy A. Platanitis and her fiancé Bill Cutler of East Hartford; a son Peter R. Platanitis Jr. and his wife Sheila of Granville; his three granddaughters Kelsey and Alexandra Platanitis of Granville and Olivia Platanitis of East Hartford. He also leaves a sister-in-law Michele Gilman of Springfield; two sisters Barbara (Platanitis) Streisand of Belchertown and Deborah Durkee of Chatham; and a brother James Platanitis of Feeding Hills. Peter enjoyed many happy hours fishing with family and friends and spent most of his days at Century Auto in West Springfield with his son and dear friends. A private funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
