June 28, 1940 – August 10, 2018
Peter M. Reardon Sr., 78, passed away peacefully Friday Aug. 10 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield on June 28, 1940, son of the late Christopher and Olivette (Sexton) Reardon and was the youngest of 12 children. He grew up on Garden Street in West Springfield, was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and belonged to the Springfield Elks Lodge #61. He was a proud member of the United Transportation Union where he served as Treasurer and Union Delegate of Local #352. He and his sister Regina were the first two reported cases of polio in Western MA during the epidemic of 1944. Both received exemplary care at the Shriners Hospital in Springfield. Peter worked for 25 years as a railroad brakeman and conductor for Conrail and Amtrak. Peter's family was his greatest source of pride and joy. He leaves his wife of 58 years Virginia G. (Marquiss), five sons Peter M. Jr. (Sharon Rivet), of Feeding Hills, Sean P. (Christine) of Davie, FL, Matthew J. (Yvette) of Feeding Hills, Timothy R. (Kara) of West Springfield and Christopher J. (Roberta) of West Springfield, and his eleven grandchildren: Kelly, Moria, Megan, Brendan, Dylan, Evan, Michael, Kyle, Erin, Christopher, Jr. and Madison. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 5 brothers and 6 sisters. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass at 10:00 am in St. Thomas Church. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at the Noble Hospital Telemetry Unit, Bronson Rehabilitation Center and Baystate Hospice.
