Philip F. Fossa Jr.

1925 – 2014

DELMAR, NY – Philip F. Fossa, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Residential Health Care Center. He was born in Springfield, the son of the late Philip and Mary (Moran) Fossa. He held undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University and a Doctorate from the University of Genoa in Italy. He was a teacher of Latin, French and Italian at the high school lever and Russian and Italian at SUNY Albany. Phil was a life-long learner. After he retired from teaching at the Public Schools in Tarrytown, N.Y., Phil continued his language studies for many years at the College of Saint Rose in Albany and at Middlebury College in Vermont. Phil enjoyed the Opera and Classical music and was an avid reader and bridge player. He served in the navy during World War II. Phil was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Albany. Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in S. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, Main Street, West Springfield, on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 1:30pm followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
