SPRINGFIELD – Raymond H. Manferdini, 89, of Mooreland Street died Saturday in Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born in West Springfield and has lived in Springfield for the past 65 years. He worked as a Street Foreman for Baystate Gas Company for 33 years until his retirement in 1991. A member of the Deadline Gang in West Springfield, Ray also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He leaves his wife of 66 years Shirley (McKenzie) Manferdini; nine children and their spouses Donald and Alicia, Kevin and Trisha, Michael and Missy, David and Stacey, Linda and Charles Ingalls, Carol and Brian Duffy, Nancy and Michael O'Connell, Debra and Michael Roy and Maryellen and Jay Papianou. He also leaves a sister Irene Hutchison; eighteen grandchildren Kristen Martinez, Ian Manferdini, Ashley Pepoli, John, Taylor and Lindsey Manferdini, Karen DeOliviera, Sergio Amaral, Joseph, Timothy, Caitlin and Kevin O'Connell, Amanda, Christopher and Bryan Roy, Lauren and Nicholas Papianou and Nate Manferdini and three great grandchildren; Olivia and Emily Manferdini and Bennett Pepoli. Ray was predeceased by a brother Ted Manferdini and three sisters Theresa Manferdini, Agnes Remington and Elsie Rourke. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 8:00am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield at 9:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
