Obituary

Regina Mary (Battles) Griffin born to the late Mary Ellen (Sullivan) and Bernard P. Battles in Springfield on February 11, 1930, was called home unexpectedly but peacefully on June 17, 2024. Raised in the Hungry Hill section, she graduated from Cathedral High School in 1948. She spent her adult life in a wonderful house in East Springfield, bought new in 1955. She made the house into a treasured family home. In 2012 she lost the love of her life, her husband of sixty-years, Lawrence J. Griffin Sr. She also was predeceased by her brother Bernard P. Battles Jr. and her sister Isabelle 'Babe' Heffernan. She leaves behind five children. Lawrence J.  Griffin Jr. and his wife Anne Marie, Daniel J. Griffin and his wife Judy, Theresa Guthrie and her husband Dan, Regina M. Griffin, and Brian J. Griffin. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Lawrence, John, Mark, Brian, Jaime, Cam and Lexi Griffin, Brendan, Ryan and Megan Guthrie, and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Wilkes and Aidan. Aunty Gina to many nieces and nephews left behind but was predeceased by Bernard Battles III and Susan (Heffernan) Carey. Her true passion was that of a mother, a wife and a homemaker. She loved her husband and children beyond words. She was selfless in her giving to the family.  Her personality would light up any room she was in. Her father passed when she was 16 and her amazing baritone voice helped her widowed mother support the family with money that she earned by singing at various functions including weddings, bar-mitzvahs and birthday parties. Irish songs were amongst her favorites to sing. "Danny boy" being her tune for any occasion. Throughout her married life she was blessed by too many good people to list, Hungry Hill friends and Kenway Drive neighbors. Her world also had a Knights of Columbus circle of friends,  and then there was the John Boyle O'Reilly extended family who she adored. Some surnames that cannot be left out in the tale of her life include the Cavanaugh's, DiStefano's, and Kiczek's who were family in Regina's glowing blue eyes. Add to the original four families the Pettirossis and Keatings. Last but far from least were a group of lifelong friends, the McCarthy, Leahy,  Shea and Mastroianni families. In her last two years while living at Chestnut Hill skilled nursing in East Longmeadow she found a friend and soulmate in her roommate Annmarie Dimauro. A special thanks to her former Doctor, Albert Cennerazzo, the staff at Chestnut Hill and the wonderful Doctors and Nurses at BayState Medical Center. Our mother's love was and will always be a BLESSING. Regina Mary Battles Griffin truly was God's artwork.
