Shrewsbury – Rena F. Phelps, 88, formerly of West Springfield and Agawam, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her home in Shrewsbury. Rena was born in Springfield, raised her family in West Springfield and lived in Agawam before moving to Shrewsbury 2 years ago. Widow of Raymond C. Phelps. She leaves her children: Wayne and Lorraine Phelps of Prospect, CT, Lynne Phelps of Portland, OR and Lauri and Steve Sweeney of Hudson, MA; 2 grandchildren: Ethan Phelps of Arlington, MA and Michael Phelps of Miami, FL, brother and sister in law Nino and Elaine Bracci of Easthampton, MA and sister Catherine Tesini of Bolton, MA. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Janice and Harry Becker, Jeanne and Doug Fauber, Paul and Dawn Tesini, Peter and Linda Tesini and Christa and Phil Drew. She was a retired Ward Secretary for Wesson Women's Hospital and a volunteer at Bay State Medical Hospital. Rena was a beautifully talented dancer who became a tap dancer with the "West Side Tappers" for twenty years. She was also a member of Ramapogue Women's Club, avid Scrabble player, and traveled with family. Her funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 9:00am with Liturgy at St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.
