Obituary

Restiva Rettura

1934 – 2024

West Springfield – Restiva (Salatino) Rettura, 90, died peacefully Saturday surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Acquaro, Italy, the daughter of Domenico and Maria Stella (Luzzi) Salatino.

On September 9, 1950, she married Pasquale Rettura in Italy.  They emigrated to Australia before coming to the United States in 1960 and settling in West Springfield in 1965, where they raised their 5 children.  Together, they owned and operated Supreme Brass & Aluminum Castings, Inc. on Windsor Street in West Springfield until their retirement in 1991.  They often travel back to Acquaro, where they owned a beautiful "Villa Restiva."  They would spend their days there enjoying the company of many families and friends.  They especially loved to be there in August, when the feast of San Rocco was celebrated.  After being married 67 years, Pasquale passed away in 2017.

Restiva was best known for her outstanding cooking, and the family looked forward to Sunday lunch, where every week she shared her special Sunday sauce, alongside a few compliments and truths to each person she loved, and they loved every second of it.   She loved to feed people, and made the best fried peppers with potatoes and her traditional rice balls,  but no one does or will ever hold a candle to her chicken cutlets.  She was a faithful parishioner to the former St. Ann's Parrish and later St. Thomas Church, both in West Springfield. She looked forward to mass every week, and always dressed to the nines.  Her sass, humor, generosity and overabundance of love made her one of a kind, and she will be incredibly missed.

She leaves her children, Anna Rettura Cosentini, Vincenzo Rettura, wife Judy, Domenico Rettura, Stella Kalamarakis, husband Harry, and Pasquale Rettura Jr., wife Deborah; a sister Maria Salatino and her husband Gabriele Sangiuliano.  She was predeceased by her sister, Enrichetta Salatino.  She also leaves seven grandchildren Sonya Hinckley, her husband Brett, Adriano Cosentini, Daniela Baker, her husband Everett, Alexandria McNulty, her husband Andy, Vincenzo Rettura, Marcos and Zoe Kalamarakis; six great grandchildren Gabriela Cosentini, Freya, Sovay and Lars Baker, Eva and Maia Hinckley and many relatives, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews in Italy and Australia.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall South and in the ICU at Mercy for their care and kindness.  They would also like to thank Lisa Maheu, PC-A from PVCA for all of the care and support throughout the years.

The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday at 9:00am with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00pm.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
