Rhena E. Bourque

1921 – 2018

Rhena E. Bourque, a lifelong resident of West Springfield, passed away on June 11, 2018 at the age of 97.  Born on March 7, 1921 Rhena was the daughter of the late Alfred and Josephine (Tourville) Bourque.  A 1938 graduate of West Springfield High School, Rhena worked for the Town of West Springfield for 43 years, retiring in 1986 after serving 41 years as the Assistant Town Clerk.  Rhena was a charter member of the West Springfield Municipal Employees Credit Union, serving on its Credit Committee from 1972-1994.   She served as Treasurer of the Town Hall Courtesy Fund and was a member of the Annual Town Report Committee.  A longtime communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church, Rhena was a lector and served on the Parish Council as its Secretary.  Besides her parents, Rhena was predeceased by her brother Wilfrid J. Bourque Sr., her sister Jeannette Clancy and her nephew Peter C. Bourque.  She leaves a sister-in-law Marion E. Bourque of West Springfield, nieces and nephew Elizabeth J. McGarry and her husband Robert of Edina, Minnesota, Wilfrid J. Bourque Jr. and his wife Cindy, Kathleen A. Bourque and her husband Patrick Lawsure, and Jeanne M. Gleason all of West Springfield, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.  The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday, June 18 ^th at Noon followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral home service on Monday from 11:00am to Noon.  For more details please visit curranjones.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas School Development Fund, 75 Pine Street, West Springfield, MA 01089.
