***PLEASE NOTE THE CALLING HOURS FOR RICHARD BEGIN AT 10:30 am AND END AT NOON***

Richard "Dick" Groves Aseltine passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH at the age of 93.  Dick was born in Springfield, MA. He was the son of Ward and Mabel (Groves) Aseltine. He was predeceased by his siblings: infant Verne, Natalie Aseltine and Joan (Aseltine) Robert. Dick was the beloved husband of Marie Louise (Rossmeisl) Aseltine for 68 years. He was the loving and devoted father of Richard Groves Aseltine Jr and his wife, Joan of New London, NH; Adele Marie Hardy and her husband, Jack of Framingham, MA. and Ronald George Aseltine and his wife, Deb of Wilton, ME. His 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren will dearly miss him: Richard Aseltine, III and his wife Courtney and their children Dylan and Connor; Robert Aseltine and his wife Victoria; Jake Hardy and his partner Susanna; Jason Hardy and his wife Gabriela and their child Paloma; Thomas Aseltine and his wife Sarah and their child Lena; and Shelby Aseltine and her husband John Horton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. Dick served his country proudly in the US Navy 1945-1947 . He graduated with a B.S. degree from Fitchburg State College and a M.S. degree from Springfield College. He was an Industrial Arts teacher and Department Head in the West Springfield School system for 43 years. He also was the school's Drivers Education instructor. Dick achieved the Eagle Scout rank and was a Scoutmaster. Some of Dick's many passions and interests were woodworking that included being the owner of Colonial Cabinet Company and building the family cottage, Landhuis, on Messer Pond in New London, NH; vegetable gardening, family camping trips, enjoying music and playing cribbage. He was a hard-working and humble man, always a teacher at heart and his lifelong lessons will be shared for many generations. His best advice, like many of his generation were; "You don't have to like it, just do it", and "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without". Dick was a true gentleman, respected for his quiet and gentle mannerisms, his selflessness, kindness and integrity. May we always remember him with a smile and a loving heart. The family would like to thank the Covid-19 doctors and nursing staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock for the loving care and comfort given to Dick during his final days. A scholarship in Dick's name is being established with the West Springfield High School Alumni Association for those students pursuing a technical or educational degree. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions payable to West Springfield High School Alumni Association at 41 Brookline Ave., West Springfield, MA 01089.  Richard's visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday, July 31, 2021 Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10:30am – Noon.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
