Richard W. Lachapelle Sr., 88, formerly of Agawam died Monday at home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Worcester, grew up in Agawam and lived in Newport Richey, FL before recently returning to Southwick. He was a self-employed builder in the area and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After retirement, while living in Florida, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Queen Peace Church in Newport Richey. He was predeceased by his son Richard Lachapelle Jr. He leaves his wife Janet (Hussey) Lachapelle; six children Craig, Jeffrey, Eric, Doreen Rowley, Monique Simon and Anette Berard-Lachapelle and also four stepchildren David, Donald, and Bernard Berard and Michelle Muller; a brother Phillip and four sisters Gloria LaValley, Winifred Perequin, Claudette Fuller, Jean Gendreau, 27 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:00am with Liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, Feeding Hills at 10:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
