Richard J. Miller
1930-2013
WEST SPRINGFIELD-Richard J. "Duke" Miller passed away on November 30, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Northampton, MA, son of Hazel M. Rockett and Charles P. Miller. He was a graduate of Northampton High School and was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT for 35 years. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, building and refinishing furniture and following the UCONN women's basketball team. He was a Cub Scout leader at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish and coached youth baseball in West Springfield for many years. Richard's family would like to thank the staff at the Baystate Medical Center for their care and support. They would also like to thank the staff and nurses at the Baystate Wound Clinic who helped keep him well for many years. Richard is survived by his caring wife of sixty years Genevieve Shea Miller, his beloved children; Maureen P. and husband Bruce Bergeron, Dianne H. and husband Tom Jalbert, Michael J. and wife Diane Miller, Kenneth J. and his wife Christine Miller and Joseph P. and his wife Sandra Miller. His cherished grandchildren; Joseph Bergeron, Ryan Jalbert, Colleen Carrasquillo, Heather Martin, Zachary Miller, Adam Miller, Colin Jalbert, Kayley Miller, Alex Temple, Scott Miller, Taryn Miller and his beloved great grandchildren Jackson and Lucien Carrasquillo. He is also survived by his sisters Ann Waslick and husband Bill, Patti Ahearn and husband Mike, brother Robert Miller and wife Patz, sister-in-law Cherrie Miller and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers John Miller, Charles Miller, George Miller and sisters Jean Lieberwirth and Mary Miller. The funeral Mass will be Thursday December 5th at 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St., West Springfield, MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday December 4th from 4-7 pm at Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St., West Springfield, MA.
