Rita Moore

1926 – 2020

Agawam – Rita (Gallagher) Moore, 94, died peacefully Saturday evening in a local nursing home.  Rita was born in Springfield and lived in Agawam most of her life.  She was a 1945 graduate of Agawam High School and was the head Majorette for the band.  She was the information manager at the Eastern States Exposition for 49 years.  A longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, she served on the Parish Council and taught C.C.D. classes.  She was the former president of the P.T.A at Phelps School, member of the Board of Directors for the Y.M.C.A., and a member of the Springfield Ski Club Ski Patrol. She received the 2005 Anne Sullivan Award  from the Agawam St. Patrick's Day Committee and the 2008 Unsung Hero Award  from the Massachusetts  Commission on the status of Women.  She leaves her husband Leslie J. Moore Jr, a son Leslie J. Moore III and his wife Janet; a daughter Judith A. Moore; four grandchildren Christian, Angela and her husband David, Nathan and his wife Rebecca, and Eric and his wife Jacqueline; six great grandchildren Miles, Esme, Keira, Edith, Levi and Ezra.  Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home on  Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  A Mass for the family only will be held Monday at the St. John the Evangelist Church followed by  burial in the Agawam Center Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Dakin Humane Society.
