Robert V.B. Ackerman Sr.

1925 – 2017

FEEDING HILLS – Robert V.B. Ackerman Sr., 91, was placed in God's Hands Monday surrounded by his loving family.  He died in Baystate Medical Center after a long illness.  Bob was born in Worcester and has lived in Agawam most of his life.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, at the age of 17.  A Corporal for the 104 th Marine Maintenance Battalion, he served during World War II in the European Campaign in England, on Omaha Beach in 1944 and later in Germany.  He worked in experimental machinery for Hamilton Standard in Connecticut and retired from National Aerospace in Agawam.  After retirement he worked part-time at Stop & Shop for many years.  He leaves his wife of 64 years Jean (Carpenter) Ackerman; two sons Robert V.B. Ackerman Jr. and his wife Joy and Richard Ackerman and Christina; five grandchildren Heather Davis, Faith, Lindsay, Mathew, Marisela Ackerman; six great grandchildren Kyle, Colin, Alex, Autumn, Liam and Mia.  A committal service will be held Tuesday, July 18 th at 3:00pm in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.  Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.  For more details please visit curranjones.com.  Donations may be made to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
