Obituary

Robert A. Aversa Sr., 84, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2023. He was born in Springfield Massachusetts on August 18, 1938 to the late Carmen and Gladys Aversa. Robert spent the majority of his life in Agawam before eventually settling in Ware in 1993. Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judith E. (Corbett) Aversa, who stood by his side through the years. He leaves behind his daughter, Paula Aversa of Monson, his two grandchildren, Max and Alan, his son, Robert A. Aversa Jr. and his wife Karen of Agawam.  Also mourning his loss are his brother, Carmen Aversa and his children. Robert's twin brother, Richard, as well as his sisters, Dorothy DePalo and Linda Siano, preceded him in death. Robert also leaves behind his beloved dog, Jeter, who brought him joy and companionship throughout the years.  Robert led a diverse and fulfilling life, making his mark in various roles and endeavors. Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1956 to 1962.  Upon returning to civilian life he served as an auxiliary police officer in Agawam, where he contributed to maintaining law and order in the community that he called home. He also worked as an iron worker, lending his strength and expertise to various construction projects throughout the area. In addition to his professional endeavors, Robert owned Aversa's Restaurant, and Avenzo's Pizzeria, both well-known establishments in North Agawam. He was also a lifetime member of the Verdi Club.  His passion for cooking was evident to all who frequented these places, and he delighted in serving up wonderful sandwiches, homemade meatballs, and pizza for his patrons. Those who knew him best will fondly remember his enthusiasm for cooking, and, in jest, his habit of sampling whatever was simmering on someone's stove whenever he visited. Robert's love for cooking, cookbooks, and old recipes knew no bounds. His clam chowder, with its heavenly blend of flavors and comforting warmth, was a beloved sensation that captured the hearts and taste buds of all who had the pleasure of indulging in its deliciousness. We also remember Robert's passion for delving into every "Consumers Report," ensuring that each household purchase was thoroughly researched and cost-effective, a skill that saved him money with every savvy decision. As we bid farewell to Robert A. Aversa, we acknowledge the unique individual he was and the memories he leaves behind. May he find peace in eternal rest, and may his loved ones find solace in the moments they shared with him.
