1929 – 2015

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Robert R. Bonfitto, 85, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was born in West Springfield on September 5, 1929 the son of the late Vincent and Ersilia (Bellano) Bonfitto, Italian immigrants. A lifelong resident of West Springfield, Robert graduated from West Springfield High School Class of 1947 and American International College. Robert was a lifelong communicant of the former St. Ann's Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and bookkeeper. He was an Assistant Controller for Holyoke Hospital for many years. A member of the Agawam/West Springfield Nocturnal Adoration Society, the United Society, and the Knights of Columbus, Robert served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert enjoyed his daily bike rides and chats with neighbors along the way. Robert was a staunch defender of the Catholic Faith and gave many talks on his devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. His wife of 53 years Louise C. (Blais) Bonfitto died January 7, 2015. He leaves his two sons, Michael R. and his wife Mary Lou Bonfitto of Westfield, Stephen J. Bonfitto of Tampa, FL, a brother William Bonfitto, sister-in-law, Nancy Bonfitto of Texas two brothers-in-law, Gilles Blais, Jacques Blais and his wife Rita, a sister-in-law, Michele Piuze and her husband Andre all of Canada, three grandchildren, Maria, Rachel and Julia Bonfitto, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Richard Bonfitto in 1966; a brother Gabriel and sister Dora Ghareeb. The funeral will be Saturday at 9am from the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street with a Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10.
