West Springfield - Robert "Bobby" Calabrese, age 23, of Ely Avenue entered into eternal rest on Thursday February 2, 2017 after a long battle with a congenital heart condition. Bobby leaves behind his mother Sheri (Welch) Calabrese of West Springfield, his father Pasquale "Patsy" Calabrese of Springfield, his beloved sisters Gia, Christina and Karissa Calabrese, his maternal grandparents Mary Lou (Mascioni) Welch and Robert "Bibo" Welch, paternal grandparents Giovanna "Nonnie" Calabrese and Giuseppe "Nonno" Calabrese. He also leaves behind the entire Calabrese family, the Welch family and a wonderful group of friends. He is predeceased by his Aunt Marie Mazza. His greatest aspiration was to learn how to master the game of hockey. While Bobby was dealt a tough hand, he never let it stop him from pursing his interests. Over the past few years Bobby taught himself to ice skate and eventually started playing pick-up hockey with a team called The Benders of Enfield Twin Rinks. He loved playing hockey, watching football and playing video games. Bobby was well loved by his friends, teammates and family members and will be remembered for his kind heart, witty jokes and charismatic personality. He will be looking down from heaven this Super Bowl Sunday rooting for his beloved Patriots to win another Championship. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday February 7, at 11:30 AM with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 12:30 PM followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday February 6, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the local chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation in West Springfield.
