Obituary

Robert (Bob) P. Codding 77, of Riverview Avenue passed away peacefully Monday at a local nursing home in the presence of his loving family. Bob was born in Terre Haute, IN to Harold Burton and Mary Agnes (Shea) Codding, both of whom predeceased him. He lived in Westfield most of his life, but recently moved to Agawam. He was a retired papermaker for both the Strathmore Paper and International Paper companies. A communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Bob honorably served his country in the army during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Moose Club in Chicopee. Bob was also predeceased by his loving wife Mary Pearl (Butman) Codding (2013); brother Dennis; sons Robert M. Charter and Dennis R. Charter; as well as two daughters, Diane F. Paul and Roberta Lagasse. Bob was a loving, devoted and great father. He is survived by two sons: Anthony "Rick" Charter and his wife Catherine of Vermont, and James A. Codding and his wife Brigitte of Springfield; a daughter Joyce Cross and her husband Dwight of Ohio; and a sister, Catherine F. Benson and her husband Frank of Agawam; seventeen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held Monday at noon in St. John the Evangelist Church followed by a full military honors burial at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. There will be a receiving line beginning at 11:30 at the Church and Agawam Curran Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
