Robert J. Haas

1947 – 2025

West Springfield – Robert J. Haas, 77, died peacefully Wednesday morning surrounded by his loving family.  Bob was born in Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School and attended, UMass, the Naval Academy and University of Georgia.  After retiring from the Traveler's Insurance Company in Hartford, he worked as a car salesman for the Balise and Regency Dealerships and for a long time worked security with the Eastern States Exposition.  He served in Vietnam with the United States Navy and was discharged ten days before the end of the war.  Bob served five terms as the Exalted Ruler of the West Springfield/Agawam Lodge of Elks.  He was named the Elk of the Year and received the Citizenship Award.  He and Judy were members of the Classic Car Club of Cape Cod and enjoyed attending Antique Car Shows. He leaves a son Anthony; two grandchildren Victoria and Jacob Haas; his life partner of the past 27 years Judy Basilone.  He also leaves his extended family Lenora Anderson and her husband Bill; Mario Basilone and his partner Rachael, Cheri and Paul Metallo and his extended grandchildren Nicole and Kevin Garabedian, Tyler Anderson, Leah and Mario Metallo.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Wednesday, March 26th starting at Noon and concluding with a funeral home service at 1:00pm followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com.
