Robert J.
Ormsby
September 5, 1926 – November 20, 2018
Robert J. Ormsby, 92 died Tuesday at Colonial Estates in Agawam. Robert was born in a house in the Indian Orchard Section of Springfield. At an early age, the family moved to Chicopee Falls. He grew up and attended Cathedral High School. He left School to go into the family businesses. Robert played all major sports, mostly with the Chicopee Tigers, Ludlow Wildcats, Stafford Springfield AA and West End AA. Bob went into the Navy and was assigned to Special Services. He made the baseball team in Pensacola, Florida. The team played all over the South and lost only one game. He received an honorable discharge and returned to the family business and continued to play baseball with the American Bosch. In one game, Bob hit two home runs and three-base hit and drove in seven runs. This was a record then and is possibly still a record today for a pitcher. During this time he met and married Lois Boduck. Lois passed away in February and both he and Lois would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in March 2018. They both loved to dance to Polka and Ballroom dancing. Bob was a life member of the Chicopee Elks, Trustee and Elk of the Year in 2009-2010. He was a former Town Meeting Member and a Police Officer in Agawam for many years. He and Lois enjoyed traveling and went to Hawaii where they survived an earthquake that registered 6.2 on the Richter scale, and traveled to Caracas, Venezuela, the Caribbean, Morocco, Mallorca, Spain, and several states in the US. Bob was a former member of the Springfield Chordsmen. He was a long-time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam. He leaves two sons, Brian of Springfield and Robert of Milton, MA, two grandchildren Kristen Ayers and Michael Ormsby, and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Elliot. A committal service will be held in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Wednesday November 28, 2018 at 3:00pm. The Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
