Obituary

Robert R. Rivers, 100, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 2, 2026 in Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, son of the late Olivier Levi and Amelia (Lamontagne) Rivers, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam. Bob worked as a welder for the former Springfield Armory and then for Westover Air Force Base before he retired. He grew up in North Agawam one of nine children and worked in the paper mills as a boy and fondly remembers swimming in the Agawam River with his friends and playing football near its banks off Walnut Street. He was a World War II Navy veteran, where he and his twin brother, Earl, volunteered at age 17. He served in the Philippines. He enjoyed refinishing antique trunks for his family and maintaining his home. He was a communicant of the former St. Therese's Church where he was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and presently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves his wife of seventy-five years, Jessie M. (Perry) Rivers, a daughter, Denise M. Machowski of Chicopee, a sister, Dolores Kehoe of East Hartford, CT, two grandchildren, Stefan Machowski, Erek Machowski, two great-grandchildren, Shelby Machowski, Rosalie Machowski and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Tuesday from 10-11:30am at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 12. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.curranjones.com
