Robert D. Scully
1924 – 2015
WEST SPRINGFIELD - Robert Dunbar Scully passed away on 4/28/15 at age 90. He was the oldest of six children, born to Nathan and Hazel (Dunbar) Scully. Upon graduating from Cathedral High School, Robert served in the Medical Detachment 263rd Infantry Regiment of the 66th Division, (US Army) which participated in the campaign of Northern France. After the war, Robert attended AIC and then graduated from Indiana University in 1949. He was employed at Ernst & Ernst for seven years before taking over his father's accounting and tax practice in West Springfield in 1960. He retired in 1991. He later served on the Town of West Springfield Finance Committee for several years and was a member of the Elks Association of West Springfield. Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria Scully, and his second wife, Judith Meffen Scully, and two sons, Shannon Patrick and Robert Michael Scully. Left behind to mourn his loss but also to celebrate his life are his children Daniel and Cheryl Scully, Timothy and Maureen Scully, Kathleen and Michael Collins, and Christopher Scully and Kelly Westbrook. He also leaves a daughter in law, Marcia Scully and stepson David Meffen. Also, eight grandchildren: Katherine, Alanna, Adam, Jonathan, Jennifer, Brett and Ryan Scully and Cristen Scully-Kromm, as well as step-grandchildren, Angela Coffey, Jillian Washburn, Michael Collins, Heather Ryng and Mathew Meffen. Additionally, he leaves four great-grandchildren, in addition to his best friend Connie Sheridan. Finally, he leaves his beloved siblings: Margaret Marquette, Marilyn Drumm, Janet Green, Edmund and Richard Scully. We all loved him, we shall miss him until we join him. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hadley at Elaine Care and Rehabilitation Facility. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday at 10am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday 4-7pm.
