Robert Steiger, 82, was called safely home on December 26, 2018. Born in Holyoke on August 21, 1936 to the late Ulysses and Lillian (Clune) Steiger. Bob attended Holyoke grammar schools and moved to South Hadley, graduating in 1954 from South Hadley High School. A 35 year employee of Texon Inc., he retired in 1995. He continued working at Holiday Inn in Holyoke and Hampton Inn in West Springfield. Bob also spent 37 years working Saturday nights at Holyoke News. After serving two years active duty in the U.S. Navy, he then spent 6 years in the Navy Reserve. Bob loved trout fishing and in his younger days fished, trapped and hunted with his father. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rose Ann, being blessed with 62 years of marriage. He will also be missed by his four children; Jacqueline Levreault and husband Bruce, son John and friend Denise Fedele, daughter Teresa Steiger and partner Tina Hitchner of Jacksonville, FL and son Todd of Chicopee, his five loving grandchildren; Corey Levreault of Chicopee, Lindsay Levreault of Burton, MI, twin grandsons Kyle and Keith Steiger and Kaitlin Steiger of Chicopee. Bob was predeceased by his brother Gerald Steiger and his sister Patricia Peters. He leaves brothers Martin (Gayle) and Kenneth (Kathy) Steiger. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. The funeral home service will be Saturday December 29, 2018 at 10 am at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to South Hadley Council on Aging, 45 Dayton St., S.
