Robert A. Wilmes, 83, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center.  Born in Springfield, son of the late George and Eunice (Provost) Wilmes, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a 1955 graduate of Agawam High School.  He was a graduate of the University Of Massachusetts Agricultural School.  Robert was the owner of Hampden Fence.  Previously he worked for the company prior to becoming the owner, and worked there until his retirement.  He was a tanker in the Army National Guard and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He was predeceased by a son, Steven A. Wilmes in 2016. He leaves his wife of fifty-eight years, Marjorie (Normandeau) Wilmes, two grandchildren, Holly Wilmes, Allison Wilmes, his former daughter-in-law, Karen Wilmes Mendes, a brother-in-law and his wife, Rick and Connie Normandeau of Colebrook, CT and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral will be Thursday at 10am from the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 745 Cooper Street followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 11.
