Robert T. Yvon
1920 - 2010
Robert T. Yvon passed away peacefully on November 22, 2010 at the age of 90. Born and raised in Springfield he was a 1939 graduate of The High School of Commerce. Bob was the last surviving member of the Yvon brothers, an athletic family who were well known in Springfield during the 30's and 40's. An all Western Mass basketball selection at Commerce he was recently inducted into the Springfield High School Hall of Fame joining his brothers Buss, Jim and Don. He was a 43 year employee of the American Bosch and was very active in AAA athletics in the 40's and 50's. He was selected the MVP of the Triple A Industrial League in 1948, and for many years served as president of the athletic association at the American Bosch. Bob was a life member of the Springfield Lodge of Elks where he spent many years on the Youth Activity Committee. He was also co-founder of the Elks golf league that recently completed its 40th season. He was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Euphemia (Crawford) Yvon, his six brothers, Alfred, Edward, Raymond, Walter, James, Donald, his sister Helen Donovan and his granddaughter Marie Yvon. He leaves his wife of nearly 69 years Katherine (Dunne) Yvon, four sons William of Phoenix, Arizona, Robert Jr. and his wife Christine of Springfield, Thomas and his wife Lillian of Westfield, and Richard and his wife Jill of East Longmeadow, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be on Friday November 26th at the West Springfield Curran Jones Funeral Home at 10:00 AM followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday November 24th. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 220 N.
