Obituary

Springfield-Roland E. Weber, 90,died Friday in Plymouth. Roland was born in Pittsburgh and has lived in Springfield for several decades. As a mechanical and industrial engineer he held many patents and was responsible for the propulsion of the first American Rocket into outer space. Roland was honored by the United Nations for his development of a unique and substantial Water Purification System. He was inducted into the Inventor's Hall of Fame and received the Invention of the Year, as well as the Pollution Control Award, and the New Product Award. He was a communication Specialist for the United States Navy during World War II. Roland leaves three daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Bruce Meunier, Barbara and Richard Gemme and Patricia and Ronald Bruyette. He also leaves his son Douglas Weber as well as twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 1pm followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery at 2pm.
