February 22, 1932 – December 19, 2023
Ronald E. Lohnes, 91, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield, son of the late Arnold and Anne (Tremble) Lohnes. "Rotten Ron" grew up in Springfield and was a graduate of Springfield Tech High School. He moved to West Springfield in 1957 following his marriage to Elizabeth. Ron had worked for Rich Litho., General Offset Printing & Andrews Printing Company for many years as a salesman before his retirement. Recently he was employed for the Springfield Republican Newspaper and worked part time for Century Limousine. He had also enjoyed driving what he called, "elderly" people around to their doctors appointments from various nursing homes. He continued this up until the COVID break out to when he finally decided to fully retire. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant, and a member of the Mittineague Congregational Church. He was a life-time member and former Master of the Elm-Belcher Lodge of Masons in Agawam, a member of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, the District Deputy Grand Marshall and Standard Bearer, and received the Joseph Warren Medal. He was also a member and past president of the Hadji Unit of Melha Shrine and past captain of the Mini Scooter Unit. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Newth) Lohnes, a son, Kevin Lohnes, and a brother, Donald Lohnes. He leaves a son, Keith Lohnes of Westfield, two brothers, Leslie and his wife Cheri Lohnes of Florida, Arnold Lohnes of Las Vegas, a sister, Beverly Proulx of Florida, two grandchildren, Brody Lohnes and Haley Lohnes, his longtime companion with whom he lived with, Anna-Lise Hatcher of Chicopee, and nieces and nephews. For those of you that knew Ron, he had a great passion for his Masonic Lodge and brethren, but his highest passion and love, was for his family.
Ron's funeral will be held Wednesday at 10am at Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7pm.
