Obituary

Ryan Richard Rollend, 21, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 31, 2016. Born in Springfield, September 7, 1994, he was the son of Richard and Sheila (Cox) Rollend. He grew up in South Hadley and was a 2013 graduate of South Hadley High School and had attended Holyoke Community College. Ryan had a special love for animals and was working at Dave's Soda & Pet Food City. Ryan's passion for music of all genres was exceptional along with playing drums and guitar with his friends and the South Hadley High School band. He loved the outdoors and went on many hiking and biking trips with friends. Ryan also enjoyed the many summer vacations at Old Orchard Beach, tending to his vegetable garden and experimenting with his cooking talent for family and friends. Ryan was always available to help his friends. His contagious smile, love and compassion touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving parents, he leaves his sister, Jessica Rollend, his maternal grandfather, Vincent Cox, his paternal mémère, Alice (Stebbins) Rollend, his aunts and uncles, Kevin Cox, Kathleen and Paul Cameron, Diane and John Fitzgerald, George and Kathy Rollend, Christopher and Joanne Rollend, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Beverly (Laukaitis) Cox. Ryan's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 1-4pm at the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street followed by a Celebration of Life at 4pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dakin Humane Society, Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101-6307 or to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, Box 2096, New York, NY 10108-2096.
