AGAWAM- Sally Rosso, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at Heritage Hall Nursing Home where she had resided for 3 years. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Rosso and the loving mother to Cheryl Nelson and her husband Phillip of West Springfield and Brian Rosso and his wife Tina of Glastonbury, Connecticut. Sally was born May 4, 1919 in Westfield, the daughter to the late Joseph and Anna (Dekarska) Zelienski. She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Edward Zelienski of Westfield and sisters Ann Wojkiewicz of West Springfield and Helen Gaid of Fords, New Jersey. Following her graduation from Westfield High School, Sally worked for Steiger's Department Store until she met the love of her life, Fran Rosso, a professional baseball player with the New York Giants organization. From 1943 until 1948 they lived in New York City, Chattanooga, Tennessee and San Francisco, California. Fran retired from baseball in 1948, and they moved back to Agawam. Sally worked in the classified department of the Springfield Republican Newspaper for 34 years, retiring in 2001 at the age of 82. Sally spent her leisure time shopping and going to the casinos. She enjoyed vacations with Cheryl, Phil and their family at Hampton Beach, and frequently drove to Glastonbury to spend weekends with Brian, Tina and their family. Sally is survived by the grandchildren she cherished, Lori Nelson of West Springfield, Matthew Nelson and his wife Julie of Westfield, Ashley Rosso of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Alexander Rosso, Esquire of Washington, D.C. In addition she leaves her great grandchildren Emma and Kyle Nelson of Westfield. The Rosso family wishes to thank the entire staff of Heritage Hall South, and in particular Nachelle McCrae, for giving Sally care, love and compassion during the past 3 years. The family also wishes to thank Amy Hathaway and the staff of Baystate Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice for providing Sally with the dignity and comfort she deserved. The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by liturgy in Sacred Heart Church, Feeding Hills at 10 am. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
