Salvatore Saimeri

1930 – 2020

West Springfield – Salvatore Saimeri, 89, died peacefully Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family.  Salvatore was born and raised in Mt. Kisco, NY.  He served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany from 1951 – 1953.  He then went on to work as an operating engineer for 45 years with White Oak Construction and was a proud member of Local 478 for over 70 years.  He met the "love of his life", Joyce, in 1949.    Sal's family was his greatest accomplishment and he was never happier than when surrounded by them.  He was a passionate lover of all things automotive and an avid collector.  He spent countless hours in his 1950 Mercury Monterey with the Connecticut Valley Regional Car Club always with Joyce by his side. He was also a lifetime supporter of the New York Yankees, which led to many spirited family conversations.  Sal's ever-present smile and contagious laughter was a blessing to all who knew him.  He leaves his wife of 66 years Joyce (Cignoni) Saimeri; his children; Bridged Mengden and husband Albert, Joseph Saimeri and his partner Jerelyn Welker, Daniel Saimeri and his wife Patricia "PJ"; Kathleen Caruso and her husband Joseph, Steven Saimeri and his wife Lisa, and Theresa Smith and husband Robert.  He also leaves his grandchildren Eric Mengden and partner Briana Melloni, Michael Mengden and wife Kim and Samantha Alfonso and husband James, Mia Abraham and husband Luke, Natalie Saimeri and her fiancé Justin Parent, Salvatore Saimeri, Olivia Saimeri, Gina Bishop and husband John, Jessica Barrows and husband Joshua, Taylor Saimeri and partner Josiah Basko, Morgan Saimeri and partner Joseph Bowker, Stephanie Caruso and partner Christopher Hessner, Joseph and Danielle Caruso; 15 great grandchildren; his sister Phyllis Roberge; brother-in-law S.P. Giacchino and several nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday July 18 th form 2:00 – 5:00PM.
