Serafino A. "Sam" Montagna Jr.

1924 – 2014

AGAWAM – Serafino A. "Sam" Montagna Jr., 90, of Agawam passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at home. Fini was born in Springfield, MA on February 10, 1924 to the late Serafino Sr. and Leonina Montagna. He proudly served in the United States Army, as a surgical technician, during WW II. After his military discharge, he worked in the family produce business for many years.   He retired from the Springfield School Department with over 25 years. Serafino was predeceased by his loving wife, Janice (Wade) Montagna. Left to cherish his memory and sense of humor are his children, Richard Montagna and his wife Marlene of Vancouver, British Columbia, Gail Cuccovia and her husband Michael of East Longmeadow, and Patti Williams and her husband Danny from Westfield. Bur his greatest joy were his grandchildren, Katie Williams of Newark, NJ, Diane Cuccovia of East Longmeadow, Monica Cuccovia of Springfield, and Steven Williams of Westfield. He, also, leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Predecease by a sister, Pasqualina and six brothers Joe, Eddie, Frankie, Nino, Johnny and Adam. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday from 11:00 – 12:00 noon followed by a graveside service in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
