Obituary

Shawn Michael Carver, a U.S. Army veteran, passed away on July 16, 2021. Shawn grew up an only child in Malden Massachusetts. He studied HVAC and graduated from Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School in 2005.  He then moved with his family to Springfield, MA where he was employed with Calden Inc. prior to joining the U.S. Army. Shawn served as a generator and equipment mechanic and was stationed at both Fort Drum, NY and Schofield Barracks, Oahu HI. He also served two separate tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan where he saw action in the defense of Camp Nathan Smith. In the years since leaving the army, Shawn faced difficulties with mental illness as a result of his experiences while deployed, but always had a kind, loving and generous way about him.  He sought the kind guidance and counseling of fellow veteran Sammy Houseberg, yet continued to struggle. He cared very much for his family and those close to him. He loved to play chess and spending time in the city of Boston. Shawn also enjoyed all genres of music and possessed an extraordinary talent for writing lyrics, drawing and making music with his friends. He is loved eternally and will be missed by so many. Shawn is survived by his mother, Donna Janerico and partner, Luke Leszczynski of Springfield, MA, his father, Earl Carver and his stepmother, Jody Saulnier and stepbrother, Michael Mann of New Hampshire, along with numerous extended family members and countless loyal friends. Family, friends and fellow veterans are invited to pay their respects and say goodbye to our beloved son on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4-7pm at the Agawam Curran Jones Funeral Home, 745 Cooper Street.  The funeral will be Friday at 10am at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Shawn's family asks that donations be made on behalf of Shawn Michael Carver to DAV, Disabled American Veterans, secure.dav.org or TAPS, taps.org \contact, 800 959 8277.  For online condolences, please visit www.curranjones.com
