Obituary

Stella A. "Steph" (Juchno) Yvon, 85, of West Springfield passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Bear Mountain at West Springfield.  Stella was born in Chicopee, MA on February 17, 1936, the daughter of the late John and Sophie (Kalisz) Juchno.  She grew up in Chicopee and West Springfield where she attended St. Thomas the Apostle School and graduated from Cathedral High School. She briefly lived in Gary, Indiana before returning to West Springfield.

Stella worked for the A.G. Spaulding Co. where she met her husband, Raymond A. Yvon.  She worked at the former Betty's Old Townhouse in Agawam and worked for various restaurants in West Springfield, including The Windmill, The Blue Star, and Al Dente.  She always enjoyed seeing her "regulars" and hearing about their families and children.

A loving mother and homemaker, Stella was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing polish meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending summers at Ashmere Lake in Hinsdale, MA.  She enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots.  She enjoyed a long and blessed life, and nothing brought her more joy than being with or watching her grandchildren.  She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Stella was met in Heaven by her husband Ray, who passed away on August 7, 2021, and their daughters Laurie and Margaret Yvon and Cindy Fontaine.  She leaves behind her daughter Lynn of West Springfield; her son Ronald and Daughter-In-Law Lisa of West Springfield; four grandchildren who she deeply cherished, Chelsea Goodreau and her husband Kyle, John Fontaine, Jr., Nicholas Yvon, and Sarah Fontaine.  She was a caring and loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, and in-laws, as well as many extended family members and friends.  She was predeceased by her brother Thaddeus "Ted" Saj in 2015.

Stella's family would like to thank all the staff at Bear Mountain for the kind care they provided to her during the last six years.

The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from the West Springfield Curran Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, with a Mass at 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.  The burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery where Stella will be laid to rest alongside Ray.  Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St. #501, Boston, MA 02210-1258; Parkinson's Foundation, P.O.
