WEST SPRINGFIELD – Dr. Thomas L. Blanchard Jr., 84 of West Springfield passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. He was born on January 9, 1927, the son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Bathaway) Blanchard. He was a graduate of Agawam High School, American International College and Tufts Dental School. Prior to attending dental school, he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He practiced dentistry in West Springfield for 55 years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. Thomas was an avid fisherman and hunter, even traveling to Montana to pursue the sports. He also enjoyed golfing with his wife and friends. He was married to his devoted wife, Margaret "Betty" (Bondi) Blanchard for 56 years. He is also survived by his loving son Todd Blanchard of Chicopee, and two grandchildren Caitlyn and Aaron Blanchard, as well as a brother Edward Blanchard of Westfield and several cousins, a niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters Geraldine Aksein and Veronica Blanchard. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his warm caretakers from Home Watch. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Monday March 7, 2011 at 8:00am with Liturgy in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 9:00am followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
