GREENFIELD – Thomas A. Dillon Sr., 87 of Ferrante Avenue died Saturday in a local nursing home surrounded by his family. Tom was born and raised in Holyoke, the son of the late Dr. Thomas Dillon and Mary (Connery) Dillon, and has lived in Greenfield for the past 60 years. He served in the army medical corps from 1943 to 1946 and saw duty in the European theatre. He graduated from St Anselm's College with a BA degree in 1951. From 1951 to 1952 he worked for Minneapolis Constructors as a liaison officer between the contracting firm and the Air Force. From 1952 to 1956 he was sales representative for Sterling A. Orr Cadillac of Springfield and served as a sales manager from 1956 to 1959 for Springfield Buick. In 1959 he became sales manager at the former Mohawk Chevrolet, he then acquired the business from Mrs. O. M. Varner and later changed the name to Dillon Chevrolet. He owned and operated Dillon Chevrolet for over 50 years. Tom was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, past President and 50-year member of the Lions Club, 25-year Trustee of the New England Auto Dealers Insurance Trust and served in the United States Army during World War II. A devout catholic he was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Tom was a member of the Greenfield Country Club for over 40 years. An avid golfer, it was truly one of his passions. He enjoyed spending summers at his house on Cape Cod with family and friends and driving to Florida with his wife Mary every February for 30 years. He leaves his beloved wife Mary F. (McCarthy) Dillon; loving children Mary K. Sikoski-Dillon and her former spouse Edward of Turners Falls Thomas and his wife Susan of Greenfield, James and his wife Ann of Greenfield; and Sheila Hanlon and her husband Robert of Salem, NH. He also leaves a beloved brother James of Holyoke; two loving sisters Joan Conrad of Holyoke and Mary O'Connor of Maine, eleven cherished grandchildren Edward, Margaret, Kathleen, Joseph, Molly, Maegan, Brooke, Sydney, Thomas, Luke, Matthew; two beloved Great grandchildren Nevaeh and Aiedan and his beloved sister-in-law Sheila McCarthy. Besides his parents Tom was predeceased by a daughter Judith Dillon, two sisters Marion Moriarty and Alice Hussey and a brother John Dillon. The funeral will be held at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield on Wednesday at 10:00am with Liturgy in Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00am followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
