Thomas J. Donahoe
WEST SPRINGFIELD-Thomas J. Donahoe, 92, of Windpath East, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at home. He was born in Woburn, the son of the late Thomas J. and Esther T. (Lowder) Donahoe. He is survived by 30 wonderful nieces and nephews and his dear friend Yvette Poirier. His wife Edith (Kenney) Donahoe died in 2004. Tom was predeceased by his six sisters, Alice Mahoney, Grace Wall, Claire Mawn, Esther Higgins, Mary Van Gelder and Helen Delorey. He graduated from Woburn High in 1942, was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving in England, France and Germany. He received college degrees from State College in Salem, Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts. Tom rose through the ranks of Springfield Public Schools from classroom teacher to superintendent beginning in 1950 to his retirement in 1989. He was a former member of the YMCA, Springfield Lodge of Elks, Lions Club and the Springfield Rotary Club, from which he received the Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a participant of several local, state and national professional organizations and a longtime member of the Springfield Country Club and the Colony Club. Visiting hours will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00am followed by a funeral home service at 11:00am. Private burial will take place in Woburn, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
