Thomas C. Fitzgerald Jr., 84, formerly of West Springfield, MA, lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family, friends and caring staff of the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was preceded in death by his parents Josephine and Thomas Sr. of West Springfield, his beloved wife Dorothy S. (Taddia); his sisters Majorie Donoghue of Springfield and Joan Lally of East Longmeadow. He is survived by; his three children and their spouses - Kathleen (Fitzgerald) & Robert Warburton of Orleans MA, Thomas C. Fitzgerald III and Rhonda (Jacobs) of Tesuque, NM, Mary Ellen (Fitzgerald) and Daniel Borsari of Feeding Hills; his four grandchildren – Theresa Warburton, Robert Warburton, Thomas Borsari and Krista Borsari; and his great-granddaughter Henrietta Warburton. Tom was born March 1, 1933 and grew up in West Springfield, attending St. Thomas elementary school and graduating from Cathedral High School in 1950. He joined the Army in 1953 and continued in the reserves until 1961. He worked for the Telephone Company for over 37 years, retiring after many years as the Manager of Motor Vehicle fleets for Western MA and Vermont. After retiring, he stayed busy on the Board of Directors of the Telephone Credit Union, the Telephone Pioneers, and spent much time golfing and traveling with his beloved wife Dorothy and their friends. The last few years of his life were spent in the loving care of the dedicated staff of the 1North Memory Care Unit at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. The family suggests that gifts and donations in his name be made in lieu of flowers to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke MA 01040. We are comforted to know that Tom is at peace and has joined his wife Dorothy once again.
