West Springfield – Thomas V. Foley, 87, died peacefully Friday morning surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Springfield the son of the late John P. and Catherine (Noonan) Foley, who had emigrated from County Kerry, Ireland. He grew up in the Brickyard of Springfield and had lived in West Springfield for the past 59 years. A 1957 graduate of UMass Amherst, Tom rose through the ranks at Northeast Utilities, where he was employed for 44 years, to become the Springfield District Manager of NU subsidiary WMECO in 1981 and later the Manager of Holyoke Water Power Co. He finally retired in 2005. He touched many lives in his career as co-workers could attest. Tom's dedication to local entities was extensive having served on the boards of the Eastern States Exposition, the Basketball Hall of Fame, Holyoke Community College, Hampden Bank, the West Springfield Rotary Club and was a past President of the West Springfield Chamber of Commerce. He spent his life primarily striving to be a great son, brother, uncle, husband, father and friend. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Eileen (Carroll) Foley; three children Mary Foley Walsh and husband Jeff of Hopkinton, John E. Foley and wife Danae (Psilopoulos) of Wellesley, and Thomas J. Foley of West Springfield and Dennisport. Poppy will miss his four adoring grandchildren: Alison and Kathryn Walsh and Charlie and Teddy Foley, as well as his sister Kay Moynihan of West Springfield. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his siblings Mary Foley Fitzgerald Kelleher, Joan Foley McDonald, and John J. Foley. The Funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 A.M. with Liturgy at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 A.M. followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. A special thank you to the staff at Baystate Medical, Mass General Brigham and Dana Farber, who provided exemplary care to Tom over the last 15 years.
