Obituary

Thomas W. Wallace passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Jersey City, NJ on Saturday, November 21 at the age of 65. Tom is predeceased by his mother, Claire Pare Wallace, his father, Thomas J. Wallace, and his brother, Timothy Wallace. Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Linda Filipak Wallace. They were married at St. Patrick's church in South Hadley on August 8, 1980. Tom will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda, his daughter Kelly Wallace of Quincy, his son Christian Wallace, and Christian's fiancé, Genevieve Skabeikis of Jersey City, NJ, his sister Nancy Carvalho and her husband David of South Hadley, his brother Michael Wallace, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Franny Filipak of Holyoke and Cynthia Gustafson and her husband John of Palm Springs, CA. Tom was born in Springfield, MA on January 5, 1950. He graduated from South Hadley High School, after which he entered the U.S. Navy and spent four years on the U.S.S. Raleigh. He then returned to South Hadley and worked for the South Hadley Electric Light Department, later transferring to Westfield Gas & Electric, where he worked until his retirement. Family was everything to Tom, and everyone in his life knew this. Tom and Linda hosted many celebrations for family and friends. Tom especially enjoyed hosting the annual Christmas Eve family gathering. Tom was a hard-working, generous, honest man who had a strong love for life. He enjoyed spending time reading, watching the wildlife around the pond, and advocating to protect the Black Stevens Pond and Conservation Area. Tom was an avid fisherman in his earlier years, fishing throughout New England. Tom volunteered for numerous town organizations that supported his commitment to recycling and keeping the town clean and green. Tom was known for giving heartfelt toasts and remembering loved ones who had passed. His family and friends will keep this tradition alive, and keep memories of him in their thoughts often and their hearts always. "Love your family. Spend time, be kind, and serve one another. The funeral will be Monday at 10am at the CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-5pm.
