Vera V. Savenko
1924 – 2011

Shrewsbury – Vera V. (Stepankowsky) Savenko, 86, of Main Street died Thursday in the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester. Vera was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and immigrated to the United States in 1954. She lived in West Springfield most of her life and was a longtime member of the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church. She was an avid knitter and crocheter. Her husband Nikolai Savenko died in 1991. She leaves five children Peter Savenko of Sturbridge, Anne Goldstone of Burlington, NC, Paul Savenko of Burlington, NC., Tanya Thompson of Medfield, Michael Savenko of Riverside, CA; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her twin sister Nadine Gan and her older sister Mary Gan. A private funeral will be held Monday at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home with burial in Agawam Center Cemetery.
