Vincent
Rizzo
March 25, 1929 – April 24, 2026
Vincent Rizzo, 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, in the home he and his wife had built in West Springfield in 1956. Born in Manhattan, NYC he was raised in Springfield and was a graduate of Technical High School.
Vincent proudly served his country when at 17 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served as a WWII era Veteran. He continued his service at the Springfield Armory and subsequently as a Department of Defense contract inspector, completing a remarkable 59 years of government service before retiring in 2009 at the age of 79.
He was a life member of the Dante Club, and a lifelong New York Yankees fan. Known affectionately as "Grampa," "Nonno," "Vinnie" or "Mr. Riz," Vincent attended countless events for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—often quietly sitting in the back, simply enjoying time with his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Santina and Andrea Rizzo, his sister, Frances Deaton; his wife, Louise (Fento) Rizzo; and his dear friend, Carole Henicke. He leaves six sons: Vincent A. Rizzo and his wife, Barb, of Westfield; Andrew M. Rizzo and his husband Wensheng of Mexico City, Mexico; Michael A. Rizzo and his wife, Lori, of West Springfield; John F. Rizzo of Hawaii, Frank A. Rizzo and his wife, Annemarie, of Daytona Beach, Florida; and Jay Heinicke of Huntington. He also leaves 13 grandchildren—Michael Rizzo, Andrea Rizzo, Gia Kindred, Vincent R. Rizzo, Dominic Rizzo, Andrew Barnes, Peter Rizzo, Kathryn Rizzo, Mark Rizzo, Lisa Martin, Joseph Rizzo, Madison Rizzo, and Sam Rizzo—as well as 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Anderson of Maine, and his brother, Andrew Rizzo of Florida.
