Obituary

Wallace Kerr Monroe, 84, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday surrounded by his loving family. Born in Holyoke, son of the late Lloyd and Bessie (Kerr) Monroe, he was a lifelong resident of South Hadley and a 1950 graduate of South Hadley High School. Wally was an exceptional athlete and was signed by the Chicago Cubs upon graduation. After spending time in it's farm system, he was drafted into the US Army in 1952, which upset his plans for a life in sports. Upon his return from Korea in 1954, he married June Carol Green, and they spent 61 wonderful years together. He graduated from Western New England University in 1961. Wallace retired as the assistant superintendent for business affairs for the South Hadley School System. He retired in 1993 after twenty-five years with the school department. Wallace was a former member of the South Hadley Lions Club and was a lifelong member of the former South Hadley Falls Congregational Church. He was a former coach for the South Hadley Little League and an avid fisherman. He also spent twenty-three years wintering in Naples, FL. He leaves his wife of sixty-one years, June C. (Green) Monroe, two sons, David W. Monroe of South Hadley, Mark W. Monroe and his wife, Kariña of Granby, a daughter and her husband, Robin E. and Mark Dizek of South Hadley, eight grandchildren, Rebecca Monroe, Megan and her husband Richard Hebert, Jay Dizek, Adeline Monroe, Dillon Monroe, Kerr Monroe, Alex Dizek, Rachel Dizek, and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Hebert and Aiden Hebert.
