Walter D. Barrett, 83, died Wednesday at the Jewish Nursing Home. He was born in New Britain, CT. He was a 25 year correctional officer at the Somers prison, where he also worked on the Fire Department. He retired in 1991. He loved to do woodcarving and also was a member of the Civil Police Patrol in Florida. He leaves his wife Anita Oski Barrett, four sons Philip Barrett (Vicky) of Enfield, Michael Barrett (Donna) of Newington, CT, Thomas Barrett of Windsor, CT and Christopher Barrett of West Springfield, a daughter Tracey Eisenman (Gary) of Somers, CT, two step-daughters Diane Shields (Tom) and Debra Jonah (Kirk), three sisters Eileen Lux of Plainville, CT, Maureen Reeves of Enfield, CT and Kathy Krar of West Suffield, CT, eleven grandchildren Sarah, Zachary, Allysa, Mariah, Savannah, Philip "PJ", Caitlin, Bryan, Brittany, Daniel and Karlye and three great grandchildren Sydney, Keegan and Kaylee. He was predeceased by a grandson Jack Jonah. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
