Walter Anton
Meissner, Jr.
December 29, 1934 – July 19, 2021
Walter Anton Meissner, Jr., of Flagler Beach, Florida and formerly of Agawam entered into eternal rest on July 19, 2021 at the age of 86 with his beloved wife, Vi, by his side. He was born in Springfield, MA on December 29, 1934 and was the son the late Walter A. Meissner, Sr., and Jennie (Grondski) Meissner. Walter was a graduate of Agawam High School and an U.S. Army Veteran. In his younger years, he enjoyed auto racing, working on race cars with his friends and even drove a race car around the track at Daytona. As a well-respected millwright and master welder, he worked on major projects throughout New England, including the Springfield Bulk Mail Building, the Hydroelectric Generating Station, the Holyoke Water Power Plant and the Montague River Fish Ladder. Walter turned his hobbies into two well-known businesses in Agawam, Agawam Speed Shop, where he created, built and sold automotive parts; and his gun shop, Auto Sports Distributors, where he made gun parts, sold guns and ammunition and most of all enjoyed the comradery of his customers who became friends. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Agawam Revolver Club and enjoyed attending sporting shows across New England as a gun dealer. Walter will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife, who gave him the best of care, Wioletta Romanowska of Flagler Beach, Florida; his son, Walter Meissner III of West Springfield; his twin sisters, Joanne Beltrandi of Feeding Hills and Barbara Nicora and her husband Chester of Agawam; his sister-in-law, Ewa Romanowska and her husband Zdzislaw Sowinski of Agawam; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his wife, Linda (Latourelle) Meissner, in 2004 as well as his brother-in-law, John Beltrandi, in 1982. A wake will be held for Walter on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 8:00-8:30am at the AGAWAM CURRAN-JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street, Agawam with a private family burial at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Attendees are asked to please wear a mask.
