Walter E. Phelps
1941 – 2016

West Springfield – Walter E. Phelps, 75, died peacefully Tuesday in Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Springfield, where he attended High School and moved to West Springfield in 1976. He owned and operated Walt's West Side Taxi and various local businesses and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the "Big Red One". He was a member of the VFW Post #6714, loved Jazz and playing drums, dreamed of sailing and was an avid pool player. He leaves his wife of 30 years Carole A. Phelps; a daughter Sheila Pendergast and her husband Bruce and two beloved grandchildren Kylie and Steven. The committal service will be held in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Monday at 11:00am. There are no calling hours and the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
