Obituary

Wayne A. Walton, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2016 at the age of 71. Born in Holyoke, son of the late Robert and Mary (Mazurowski) Walton, he moved to South Hadley at the age of 9. After graduating from South Hadley High School in 1964, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Virginia on the USS Independence during the Vietnam War. He worked as a pipe coverer for Local 43 and later in life was an assistant cook at the South Hadley Senior Center. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox, doing crossword puzzles, collecting vinyl records, fishing and antique cars. He will be remembered for his determination, dry sense of humor and especially for his love and commitment to his family. Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Wayne is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Christine J. (Popielarz) Walton, their three children, Joanne Walton-Bicknell and her husband Scott Bicknell, Wayne E. Walton and his wife Monica (Griswold) Walton, Tiffanie (Walton) Levreault and her husband Jeffrey Levreault, six grandchildren, Kaylee Walton, Scott Bicknell, Cory Walton, Benjamin Bicknell, Nina Levreault and Anni Levreault all of South Hadley, a brother, Robert Walton of California, three sisters, Ruth Phillips of Florida, JoAnn Bennett of Easthampton, Karen Dunn of California, their spouses, cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James Walton and a sister, Phyllis McFarland. Calling hours will be at CURRAN-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley, Friday, December 2 at 3:30, with a memorial service beginning at 5:30. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VA Central Western Mass, 421 North Main Street, Leeds, MA 01053 for patient needs. The family would like to thank the staff at Elaine Center of Hadley for the compassionate care they had provided for Wayne.
