William J. Bly, 65, died Sunday February 4 ^th . William was born and raised in Springfield. He moved to Granby in 1972, living with his mother and housemate Tom Berthiaume until 2010. He then moved to Monson into a shared living situation with Sam Laba-Barry. Bill worked for the Aditus Company and Sunshine Village in Chicopee for twenty years.  From 1980 through 1990, He won many Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for running and softball throws at the Massachusetts Special Olympics. He enjoyed the SSV Bowling League in Springfield and was an excellent Square Dancer at Mt. Marie's Bi-weekly dances through the Jerico program. He was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Granby and was an honorary member of the police force. He leaves his sister Geraldine Hinz and her fiancee Jeff Dutton of Granby; and a brother Kenneth Bly of Logging Creek, WI, best friend and care provider Sam Laba-Barry of Monson, friends Dakota Glidden and Sarah Laba-Barry, nieces Amy and Jessica Maher and his favorite dog Sadie. The funeral home service will be held Saturday March 3rd at 11 am at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
