William Gonzalez, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community advocate, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, William's life was a testament to love, resilience, and generosity. Raised by his mother, Dominga Quiñones, alongside siblings Roberto, Vitín, Sol Iris, and Aníbal, William met the love of his life, Celenia Lopez, at age six. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership. In 1967, William moved to Westfield, Massachusetts, where he began a 25-year career at HB Smith Boiler Company. He later returned to Puerto Rico to marry Celenia, and together they built a life in Springfield, raising six children: Marixa, Brenda, Roberto, Anthony, Ciara, and Cassandra. In 1988, William and Celenia became foster parents, caring for up to 12 children at a time. Their dedication earned them the title of Massachusetts Foster Parents of the Year in 1990. William's home was a sanctuary—filled with warmth, music, poetry, and the sound of dominoes. William was a passionate advocate for the Hispanic community, active in local politics, and deeply involved in cultural life. Above all, he was a family man who took pride in his children and adored his grandchildren: Mecca, Angelina, Tatyana, Selenya, Claudia, Claudio Daniel, Keilani, Jaikob, and Justin. William is survived by his wife, Celenia; his brother Aníbal; his children; niece Maribel and nephew William Sepulveda; sons-in-law Michael Moore, Chris Williamson and Emmanuel Tirado; daughter-in-law Diane Dos Reis and many beloved grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Visiting hours are Friday, November 14, 2025 from 5–7 PM at Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, West Springfield.
