William V. Guiel, 91, of South Hadley, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018. William is survived by his wife, Sandra Guiel, children, Sharon McConnell, Joanne Deyette, William Guiel Jr., Lisa Hupfer, Jeff Guiel, Kenneth Guiel, and stepchildren, Penny Lavallee, and Robert Garrant as well as 15 grandchildren. William enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and held the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class while serving at the the Bureau of Navy Personnel in Washington, D.C and aboard the USS Winston. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1948, William returned to the family construction company until he assumed his father's position as President of "William Guiel and Son" in 1961; a role he held for the next 34 years. William was a scratch golfer at many of the Pioneer Valley golf courses, enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife, and many hobbies such as bowling, building and boating the "Hard Times" with his family, and building military ship and airplane scale models. William will be remembered by his friends and family as a prideful man who never missed a moment to share a joke and a laugh. A graveside service with close family and friends will be held at a later date.
