Chicopee - William Charles Michaud, 79, of Chicopee, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 19, 2011. He was born March 15, 1931 in Springfield, Mass., son of the late Lucien and Josephine (Delosh) Michaud. He was raised in Springfield and was a 1949 graduate of Technical High School and a life-long New York Yankees fan. Bill served in the United States Army. He lived in Springfield until moving to Chicopee in 1963 where he raised his five children with his loving wife of 57 years, Jean (Paolino) Michaud. He was a 40 year painter and paper hanger for Painters Local Union #257 retiring in 1993 and was also one of its past treasurers. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill and Jean enjoyed many happy years together traveling to many destinations including their favorite places; Aruba, Atlantic City, and Mohegan Sun. He took great pride and spent countless hours watching his grandchildren participate in their various sports and activities. Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Daniel and sister Constance. In addition to his loving wife Jean, Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving son, Anthony Michaud and wife Karen, his loving daughters, Denise Giroux and husband Walter, Diane Galui and husband John, Darlene Graham and husband Michael, Christine Costello and husband Kevin. He also leaves behind his much beloved grandchildren, Carolyn and husband Carmine Battista, Kristen and husband Andy Reid, Cathryn and husband Dan LaDuke, Anthony, Mike, Brian, Neil, Meghan, Gina and Michael. Bill was also the great grandfather of Braydon, Gianna, Abigail and Madison. Bill also leaves a sister Ann Atkinson, a brother Lucien Michaud, two sisters-in-law Peggy Shibley and AnneMarie Paolino as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Deaton and the nursing staff of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center for their extraordinary and compassionate care shown to them during Bill's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 396 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 am from West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home followed by Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield at 10 am. Burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 4-7 pm.
