William J. Porter
1954-2011
WEST SPRINGFIELD-William J. Porter, 57, passed away on August 18, 2011. He was born on July 28, 1954 to Delmo and Elinor (Greenwood) Porter. He had worked in the sheet metal industry in both Massachusetts and Connecticut for the last 34 years. He had been working recently in North Carolina soon to take up permanent residency with his wife, Elizabeth. He was a native West Springfield townie where he enjoyed seeing people he knew in the most unusual places. He was an avid New-England sports fan and enjoyed golfing and his vegetable garden. He leaves his beloved wife of 21years, Elizabeth (Lane) who was his biggest proponent. He leaves his son Jon J. Porter of Chicopee, daughter Jodi Chaves and her husband Tony of S. Windsor, CT. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jon J. Porter, Jr., Javian and Jakoby Chaves and great-granddaughter Cali N. Porter. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a brother, Paul J. Porter of Raleigh, NC. and a sister Pamela J. Porter of West Springfield. He was predeceased by both his parents and a brother Richard J. Porter and sister Gail E. Rousseau. He also leaves his beloved golden retriever, Hazel and Sammy the cat. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Shriner's Hospital at 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104 in Bill's memory where Hazel, a registered therapy dog visited the children. The funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10 am at St. Thomas Church. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours at West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home will be Monday 4-7 pm.
